Skirmishes in the times of the Gallic Wars

Skirmish game for 2 players and more for ages 14 and above

OPPIDUM (the name of Celtic fortified towns) is a simulation game set in modern France, Belgium and England back in the First Century BC. It reenacts the numerous fights that Celtic tribes fought to resist Caesar’s ambitions. You can play Gaul, Briton, Germanic or Roman characters and try to land in Brittania against Celtic chariots, escort a forage convoy through hostile territories or assault the formidable fortifications that Caesar built in Alesia.

16 scenarios of increasing complexity allow for a gradual and easy learning of the rules.

Rules are intended to simulate man-to-man combats, including the various Roman legionary formations or missile fire with bows, lances, javelins, slings and the deadly Roman scorpio. Celtic and Roman fortifications with all their obstacles can be assaulted with various siege equipment.

Game contents:

  • 6 full-color tactical maps;
  • 3 full-color counter sheets;
  • 1 rules booklet (16 pages) ;
  • 1 historical background and scenario booklet (40 pages) ;
  • 5 full-color playsheets for handy reference;
  • 1 counter tray
  • 1 10-sided die.

Game scales:

  • 1 counter = 1 character
  • 1 turn = 2 seconds
  • 1 map hex = +/- 2m (6 feet)

You can also add a turn counter (with a 28mm figurine of Julius Caesar).

The play sheets are also available separately in Italian, Spanish, German or Polish.

The Celtic Oppidum extension allows you to play on a large terrain made of 4 maps and provides 4 additional scenarios.
