The Meuse marked in the Middle Ages, a period of construction of fortified castles, the border between two rival states, the county of Namur and the principality of Liège. This period is marked by many conflicts of which these strongholds were the main objectives. For some buildings, history has stopped and ruins have replaced proud dungeons; for others, the fragile castle has turned into a mighty citadel to resist the new weapon: artillery.
