On June 16, 1815, Frédérick Guillaume, Duke of Brunswick, fell from his mount, shot in the abdomen, while commanding his troops on the Quatre-Bras battlefield. The 75th anniversary of his death, and that of many of his subjects from Brunswick, will be commemorated in 1890 with the inauguration of a monument, south of the Quatre-bras crossroads, not far from the place where "the black duke died." ". This monument, topped by an impressive roaring lion, deserved a study. The profits from the sales will go towards the renovation of the monument.
